Meet Shaye:
Shaye Wyllie is one of the original certified instructors for Advanced Parenting for Challenging Children. Shaye lives in Kona, Hawaii. She is a single parent of three wonderful children, two of whom were adopted from the foster care system.
Shaye has shared her home with 25 children in foster care over a period of fifteen years. Most of the children had special needs and a variety of challenging behaviors. This led Shaye to search for highly qualified experts with the experience and tools to help heal these children. The ensuing years have been successful and rewarding. They have also been full of tears, frustration, joy and laughter.
Shaye has had extensive training and experience in therapeutic parenting. She has worked with children diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Anxiety Disorder, Depression, Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD), Oppositional Defiance Disorder (ODD), and Fetal Alcohol Effect (FAE), with a focus on Reactive Attachment Disorder (RAD). In her experience, specific and unique parenting techniques, used in a team approach, can provide a healing environment where children’s lives can be redirected. Wounded children, with destructive behaviors, can become ‘respectful’, ‘responsible’ and ‘fun to be with’—in Hawaiian, ka Ho’ihi, ke Kuleana, a me ka Pili.
As her own childrens’ hearts are healing, it is her desire is to provide others with the hope, solutions, and support they need.
Shaye is available for support groups, seminars, mentoring, and training. She is excited to work with caregivers, parents, adoptive, pre-adoptive and foster parents, extended family, mental health professionals, teachers, human services, youth groups leaders, healthcare workers, GAL’s and more.
